This was an unplugged style event, with acoustic instruments - guitars and harmonicas and what a fantastic night it was - thanks to Boogie Bill Roberts for arranging the session and The Gregson Centre for putting it on!.

Some info for you.

LAZY LESTER and STUDEBAKER JOHN - Two great Blues Legends, One Great Show!

LAZY LESTER - This Louisiana swamp music innovator is a spirited singer and gifted multi-instrumentalist, who remains one of the most dynamic blues artists on the contemporary blues circuit. His songwriting gifts have inspired countless musicians - for example The Kinks (who covered "I'm A Lover, Not A Fighter"), and Dave Edmunds (who turned Lester's "I Hear You Knockin'" into one of his signature tunes).

Lester was coaxed out of retirement in 1989 and cut the album Lazy Lester Rides Again, for which he won a W.C. Handy Award that year. In 1998 he released his highly acclaimed "All Over You," on Antone's.

STUDEBAKER JOHN - John captures the raw energy and grit of the classic blues musician. He has a deep understanding of the blues tradition that comes from hanging with the classic Chicago bluesmen, but he's created his own sound and style from these roots." -- Bruce Iglauer (Owner, Alligator Records)

"Dedicated to the vintage sounds of Chi-town in the golden age of the '50's on guitar and harp, he is no retro man recycling worn out standards. He makes original music that is both timeless and relevant." -- David Rubin (Guitar One Magazine)

This was a rare opportunity to see authentic blues music of this calibre in such a select and cosy environment. Thanks go to The Gregson Centre for supporting this event.

Weds 13 April - Electric Mud, John O' Gaunt, Lancaster
Sat 23 April - Boogie Bill and Mike Atherton (Hustle in duo format!), Morecambe Hotel, Lord St, Morecambe.
