'Rock Legends'
Auction on the 12th March 2009
Buy a piece of rock history.......
An iconic guitar owned by a series of rock legends including Duster
Bennett, Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green and Eric Clapton, two supercars
owned by Rod Stewart, and a car owned by Dusty Springfield are some
of the highlights of a unique ‘Rock Legend’s’ sale put together by
international auction house COYS.
COYS “Rock Legends” inaugural sale will be held on 12th March at
London’s Royal Horticultural Halls, and will see three important
sales in one as the auction house once again offers opportunities
for investors to buck the current economic downturn. The catalogue
is expected to contain some 60 iconic and rare vintage instruments
and rock ephemera associated with some of the most famous names from
the rock world, including Buddy Holly, George Harrison, The Who,
Jimi Hendrix.
Julius Thurgood from COYS Rock said: “These are solid investments
you can hold in your hands. They are extremely beautiful and have
bucket loads of mojo. What other investments can you plug in and
rock away?!”
Several important guitars that have been consigned include one of
the most charismatic guitars in the history of British Blues, a 1952
Gibson Les Paul Gold Top, complete with its distinctive trapeze
tailpiece. This was owned and made famous by cult UK blues legend
Duster Bennett, known for his “One Man Blues Band”. The guitar has
an incredible lineage, being given to him by Peter Green of
Fleetwood Mac who in turn got it from Eric Clapton. Legend has it
that Clapton received this from the blues king himself, BB King, who
acquired it from Muddy Waters. The guitar has also been owned by
Top Topham, founder of the Yardbirds.

Rod Stewart’s 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder is estimated at
£58,000 to £70,000 while the Ferrari Superamerica is estimated at
£70,000 to £90,000.
Other highlights include bizarre Brian Eastwood dreamlike guitar
creations, a replica of George Harrison’s famous hand-painted Fender
Stratocaster, “Rocky”, and an official Gibson Buddy Holly J45
acoustic reissue, one of only 250 worldwide.

Julius Thurgood added “this sale has some incredible guitars but is
also accessible for all, with some guitars such as the very rare
Buddy Holly reissue estimated at only £1000-£1200. In a year which
sees the 50th anniversary of the death of Buddy Holly’s, this could
be a fantastic investment.”
The viewing is on Wednesday 11th March 2009.
The auction is to be held on: Thursday 12th March at London’s Royal
Horticultural Halls.
