In the evening, before the sun went down, we were on Beale Street for the Memphis Music & Heritage Festival. We saw David Evans do another excellent set with Robert Thomas, a harp player who was more than just good, also played a mean jug. Wandering thru the festival we discovered some hot gospel from the Singing Southern Jubilee's, an elderly African American male sextet all dressed in cool maroon/dark red suits. Led by a seated Big Dan Taylor who turned in some old-style preaching while the other five members gave out with harmonies to beat the band. This was a glimpse back into the 40s and 50s.

Then we finally made our way back to ,Millington and after a few drinks (!!) we hit the sack/hay or whatever. Whatta a week-end. This was made even more memorable by David’s wife Marice - definitely a lovely lady - who plays piano to accompany gospel songs and I’m sure also sings them herself. But we never got round to doing it. Next time, Marice. The next day we were making an early start to the next phase of our journey of a life time: down to the Mississippi Delta - home of the blues.
